2026, the Fire Horse year: which animals offend Tai Sui

2026 is 丙午, a Fire Horse year, and the presiding Tai Sui is the Horse.

To "offend Tai Sui" (犯太岁) means your animal stands in a particular relation to the year's. There are five of them: 值 presiding, 冲 clash, 刑 punishment, 害 harm and 破 break. Four animals are implicated this year.

The four animals affected in 2026

Horse — 值太岁, your own year
When the presiding Tai Sui is your own animal, the year is amplified: the opportunities and the risks are both more pronounced than usual, and so are your moods and your energy. Contracts, health checks and large decisions are all worth a little extra time — nothing settled on impulse.

Rat — 冲太岁, the clash
子 directly opposite 午. The year's upheaval tends to arrive in one block: moving house, changing jobs, a relationship turning. Better to plan ahead of it than to be pushed along by it.

Ox — 害太岁, harm
丑 and 午 in harm. Traditionally this is about being misunderstood, being talked about, or trusting the wrong person — the kind of loss that comes out of a gap in communication. Say important things face to face, and keep something in writing where money is involved.

Rabbit — 破太岁, break
午 and 卯 in break. Plans get disrupted, arrangements change, things stall half-finished. Leave slack in the ones that matter, and do not schedule too tightly.

No punishment relation this year

The punishment relations come from the three punishments (寅巳申 and 丑戌未), 子 and 卯 punishing each other, and the self-punishments of 辰, 午, 酉 and 亥.

The self-punishment of 午 falls on the Horse, but the Horse is already presiding this year, so no separate animal stands in 刑太岁 for 2026. The remaining animals have no special relation to Tai Sui this year, and have nothing to do but go about things steadily.

How much it actually matters

Worth saying plainly: offending Tai Sui does not mean the year will go badly.

What it describes is that one part of the year is likely to move more than usual. The answer to that is to pay a little more attention — not to be frightened, and not to buy anything to make it go away.

Take it as a reminder: this year, when a big decision comes, wait a beat before you commit.

Common questions

What day does the Tai Sui year start?

At 立春, the start of spring. Not 1 January, and not Lunar New Year.

Do I have to do something to offset it?

This site does not sell any way of offsetting it. There are traditional practices — 安太岁, wearing red — and you are free to believe in them or not. What demonstrably helps: take longer over big decisions, read contracts twice, and say the important things face to face.
